The Panic of a Smile
Why dont you smile?
They all ask me.
They dont know the fear
That takes over my facial muscles.
Lips purse, eyelids shut tight
The fear that cripples the mind, body, and soul.
My heartbeat quickens
As does my lungs
Taking and expelling air.
Why dont you smile?
Its hard to fathom
And to explain.
Feelings of embarrassment and of pain
Rock and roll around my brain.
Why dont you smile?
They all ask me.
Why dont you smile?
I ask of me.
