Lech Walesa

Helps lead protest in 1970 and 1976 to lower the


price of food when it rises. Succeeded both times and
the rises in food was withdrawn. Then once again
another food prices rise and Walesa helps lead the
workers again until finally they finally the government
signs 'Gdansk Agreement' giving workers the right to
strike and to organize freely and independently . Then
becoming the countrys first legally recognized
independent trade union since WWII. This was known
as the Solidarity movement.
In 1981 Walesa became Chairmen and chief
spokesman, he keeps this position until 1991.
During Walesa presidency he turned his government
and economy into a free market economy.
Supported and help get Polands entry into European
Union.
Later after his presidency he help with lecturing
about central European history and politics.
In 1996 he started support and help local
governments once he founded Leach Walesa
Institute.
Won Nobel Peace prize for his campaign for freedom
of his organization in Poland.
