Topic outline:

Literacy: We will be reading a story all about a little boy called

Eddie who wants a garden of his own. We will find information from
the book and computers to learn all about what a plant needs to grow.
We want the children to;

Continue writing their own name or letters from their name.

Give meanings to marks they make when painting, drawing or

writing.

Recognise writing in the environment

Continue to enjoy reading books and looking at books with an

adult.

Mathematics: This half term we will be learning about measure and

comparing the height of the plants we grow using the language of
tall, short, taller and shorter. We will continue to recognise and
count objects to 10 and drawing the correct amount of objects. We
will be looking at shapes in the environment and continue to
recognise shapes and their properties.

Suggested books:
Eddies Garden Sarah

Garland

Olivers Vegetables Vivian French

Understanding of the world: We will be learning about our natural

environment and the type of plants that grow. The children will be
encouraged to talk about the detail they find and what plants look
like and what they need to help them grow. We will be planting our
own plants in the raised beds and in the classroom. Some of the
plants we will be able to taste.

Suggested visits and things to do

outside:
Educational visits offer an invaluable opportunity to enrich
young childrens lives, raise their self-esteem, increase
motivation and give them a love of learning. We encourage
families to visit new areas and explore new environments to
improve their knowledge of the world.
