CHRONOLOGY

MADDY MORGAN

STORMING OF THE BASTILLE

The Storming of the Bastille occurred in Paris,
France on the morning of 14 July 1789. The
medieval fortress and prison in Paris known as
the Bastille represented royal authority in the
center of Paris. A medieval fortress, the
Bastilles eight 30-metre-high towers,
dominated the Parisian skyline. This is the
most important because this was the start of
the French revolution.

THE REIGN OF TERROR

The Reign of terror was a period of ruthless cruelty
or bloodshed, in particular Reign of Terror the period
of the Terror during the French Revolution. After the
death of Louis XVI in 1793, the Reign of Terror
began. The first victim was Marie Antoinette. She
had been imprisoned with her children after she was
separated from Louis. The Reign of Terror was the
second most important because this was when lives
were lost and the third estate were getting back
some power.

THE FRENCH REVOLUTION

The French Revolution occurred in 1789 to 1799,
where the peasants and people overthrew the king.
This led to the end of the monarchy. The Revolution
ended when Napoleon Bonaparte took power in
November 1799, and began his dictatorship. King
Louis XVI was executed on the guillotine, along with
his wife, Marie Antoinette. This was the third most
important because the French Revolution was a time
when the third estate rose up against the higher class
and managed to get more power for themselves.

ECONOMIC CRISIS
The economic crisis was a stage in the 18 th century
where France fell into a huge debt. King Louis XIV and
Louis XVI had selfishly invested large amounts of
money into things such as the American revolution. In
an attempt to regain their money, the king raised the
taxes, however he only applied them to the third
class. The third class was very unhappy with this and
their aggravation led them to up rise against the king.
The economic crisis was the fourth most important
because when the country fell into debt they called
the other generals and tried to figure out a way so
they wouldnt go into bankruptcy.

POLITICAL CRISIS
The political crises was a time when the
peasants relised that the higher class people
were in control of what resources people did
and didnt have. They thought they needed
to make a change because they didnt like
the life they were living. The political crisis
was the second least important because the
third estate was just stating to realize that
the higher class people had more power then
the third estate.

ESTATES GENERAL
Estates General is the legislative body in
the Netherlands from the 15th to 18th
centuries, and in France until 1789,
representing the three estates of the realm
(i.e. the clergy, the nobility, and the
commons). Estates-General, also called
States General, in France of the preRevolutionary monarchy. This was the least
important because they attempted to work
together as a group but it made it worse.
