Read every night for 15 minutes.
These should be readers/journals from school, your
library book & any reading material that you have at
home.
Remember to get your Reading Log signed by an
adult at home. Aim to have at least 6 entries
written AND signed into your Reading Log.

Comma Challenge
In class, we have been learning about the rules
of the comma. Write 5 sentences that each
show how the comma can be used e.g. in a
listing sentence or to separate two ideas in a
sentence.
Illustrate your sentences if you wish.

Welcome to Week 9!
We are nearing the end of Term 1 with just
two weeks to go! Today we welcome
Mr Doug Wray who will be a student teacher
with us for the next 7 school weeks. We are
very lucky to have another teacher in our class
and we look forward to making Matua Doug feel
very welcome to Room 1 & Mangapapa School.
Next week, the Year 5 Learning Neighbourhood
is having a walk and fun day. This will take
place on Thursday after morning tea. We will
walk up Hospital Hill and finish at the Hospital
Road Reserve and it is intended to be an
opportunity to develop and strengthen
connections with whanau of our learners. We
will be having an ice block and games etc and
we would love for you to come down and spend
time with us if you can make it. Please see the
flyer sent home today with homework.

WRITING CAN DO?
Write a poem about a favourite dinner that your
family love to enjoy. It could be a poem of any
sort e.g. Haiku, acrostic, Diamante. Research
types of poems and have a go at writing one.
