ALBUTEROL: (PROVENTIL / VENTOLIN)


PHARMACOLOGY / ACTIONS

Beta - Adrenergic agent used to relieve bronchospasm.

INDICATIONS:

For relief of bronchospasm in the following:


Acute asthma.
Acute allergic reactions.
COPD.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

History of sensitivity to contents of Proventil.


Cardiac dysrhythmias associated with tachycardia.

SUPPLIED AS:

2.5 mg in a 3 cc saline pre - mixed solution.

PRECAUTIONS:

Use with caution in patients with the following conditions:


Acute hypertension. Systolic BP > 200 mm/Hg. Diastolic BP > 120 mm/Hg.
Coronary insufficiency.
Diabetes & Seizure disorders.
Recent use. (Within 30 minutes)
Adverse reactions include:
Seizures & Nausea.
Dizziness.
Bronchospasm.
Tachycardias & arrhythmias.

ADULT PROCEDURE:

2.5 mg in a 3 cc saline pre - mixed solution with oxygen flow at 6 to 8 lpm for 5 to 10 minutes.

PEDIATRIC PROCEDURE:

2.5 mg in a 6 cc solution in nebulizer for children that are younger than1 year of age with oxygen
flow at 6 to 8 lpm for 5 to 10 minutes.
