Maximum and Minimum Phenomenon

Overview:
Students will gather in groups of two to develop a visual presentation
or model to demonstrate their knowledge of graphing functions. In
order to do so students must list definitions, create examples, apply
concepts to real-life application and present to the class. This will give
the students an opportunity to explain to the class what they learned
and understand.
Instructions:
1. Formulate a group of two of your choice.
2. Develop your method of presentation:
Examples: PowerPoint, Prezi, Website, Poster, Poem, Music
Video, Model, etc.
3. Your presentation must include all of the following:
a. Definitions - In your own words
i. Local Maximum and Local Minimum
ii. Absolute Maximum and Absolute Minimum
iii. Critical Value
iv. Increasing and Decreasing
v. Concave up and Concave Down
vi. Inflection Points
vii. First Derivative Test
viii. Second Derivative Test
b. Examples
i. These examples apply each of the definitions listed
above. Each of these examples must be your own.
You can look at the research done in class to help
your group formulate each example
ii. Each example must have a clear step-by-step and
chronological reasoning as to what you are doing and
why.
c. Applications:
i. Your group is required to formulate three different
real-life applications.
ii. Your group should be able to explain the reasoning of
the applications and the purpose.
d. Presentation:
i. Each groups is required to present the final product
to the class with correct mathematical explanations.
ii. Each student will be graded individually and is
