Science, Geography & Social Skills (Whole group instruction)
Fall:
September South Carolina flag, animals, landmarks. Our Peaceful
Classroom introductory lessons, nature shelf, care of the classroom
environment, care of the classroom, animals and plants, Grace and Courtesy
lessons, parts of the body, living and non-living, fish, apples. Grandparents
Day.
October North America, Mexico and Central America. Nocturnal animals,
leaves, trees (parts of/characteristics, pumpkins. Human needs family, love,
shelter, food, clothing, community, The Universe, Our Solar System, return to
planet Earth. United Nations Peace Day (Oct. 24). Fire Safety.
November North America USA: historical figures, events and national
symbols. Native America (Early America), Thanksgiving, fruits and
vegetables, Medicine wheel 4 elements, 4 directions, 4 seasons;
invertebrates and vertebrates. Election Day, Veterans Day.
Winter:
December Europe, Christmas around the World (Hanukkah, Christmas,
Kwanza), winter.
January Antarctica/Arctic Region: geography, flags, biomes, animals,
landmarks, culture, art, birds (parts of/classification), solids/liquids/gas,
thermometer, electricity (parts of a flashlight). Martine Luther King Jr.
birthday. Time lines- year, month, seasons, days, hours, minutes, seconds.
February Africa: geography, flags, biomes, animals, landmarks, cultural, art.
History of Valentines Day, love and friendship, Black History month,
Presidents Day, Groundhogs Day, money, magnets, dental health, heart
health.
Spring:
March Asia: geography, flags, biomes, animals, landmarks, culture, art. St.
Patricks Day, spring, wind (kites), reptiles (parts of/classification), Dr. Seuss.
April South America: geography, flags, biomes, animals, landmarks, culture,
art. Rainforests, weather, amphibians (parts of/classifications), Easter, Earth
Day
May Australia: geography, flags, biomes, animals, landmarks, culture, art.
Coral reefs, insects (classification)/butterflies (parts of), flowers, gardening,
soil, seeds, trees. Mothers Day, Peace Day, Memorial Day
Summer:
June Continued from May. Insects, spiders, food chains. Care of the
environment. Fathers Day
