Classroom Observation
I got to do my observation at South Haven Elementary with Mrs. Snodgrass. I got to
spend the entire day with her. I watched as she worked with kindergarten and first grade. I got to
see her hectic schedule. She spends a lot of time on her students. The students really listen to her.
She speaks in a very clear voice and makes sure the students understand what they are doing.
When the students would be impatient she would reverse by thanking them for being patient then
it actually would make them sit quietly while she did something else. She praised good behavior.
When she would thank a student she would tell them exactly what she was thanking them for.
For example if a student sat down quietly and waited she would point them out and thank them
for sitting quietly then the other students would look and see and want to copy. The teacher
would also give the students an opportunity to talk. What I mean when I say that is some teachers
dont take the time to listen to students unless it has to do with education. She gave the students a
small moment to talk about what they had on their mind then proceeded with the lesson which I
thought showed a lot of care and concern. If the students did something they werent supposed to
she would kindly asked them to stop and they would listen because she would ask clearly and
sternly. I really enjoyed observing her and watching her interact with the students. It was
different because I have been used to being with third and fourth grade students. I forgot how
different the grade and ages really were. After being a substitute at the middle school a few times
I am set in wanting to be an elementary teacher. I was already set in specifically becoming an
elementary teacher but this observation and experience really set my mind for knowing what I
really want to do and teach.
