Second Field Day Visit: Williamsville Secondary School

Dear Journal,
It is really a privilege to witness different ways of teaching a lesson by my colleagues.
There is so much we can learn and have been learning from each other. What was really an eye
opener for me was discovering that us teachers have so many problems and are often frustrated
when teaching lessons on programming, but thats not it, the real eye opener was discovering that
we the teachers do not know how to teach our students programming.
The frustration and problems with it stems from us. That was a rude awakening for me.
There I was thinking that I am doing all that I can and my very best, breaking it down to
simple everyday terms as I would normally think and these students do not understand lessons on
programming; not realizing that its because I do not possess the necessary know how and skills
to teach the lesson.
As teachers we need to spend time reflecting on what can I do better, the how can I do it
better and making lessons my student-centered. This field day was interesting, informative, gave
me reason to rethink and reassess myself and the way I teach. I am happy that I was there though
I was not feeling very well; and I believe that my colleagues felt the same way.

Respectfully
Esther
