InTasc Standard:
Standard #7: Planning for Instruction
The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by
drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as
knowledge of learners and the community context.

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my ECED 210 Planning for an Elementary Education Classroom course during the fall
semester of 2014, I created and implemented a lesson plan for a first grade classroom. The students were
to paste tens and ones pieces to create the first letter of their name. They were given construction paper to
glue their letters and sentence onto. They wrote their names in the first blanks of the sentences and filled
out how many tens and ones pieces it took to create the first letter of their name onto the sentence cut out.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I learned how to properly write lesson plans, objectives, and how to tie in Indiana state standards.
Through this, I learned how to create an extensive lesson and how to tie activities to the standards I need
to use. I also learned about how much preparation it takes to prepare a lesson, even if it is short. I learned
about new ways to possibly increase a childs social emotional development, cognitive development, and
how to guide childrens behavior in a positive and meaningful way through this lesson.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

InTasc Standard:
My competence in this standard is proven by my ability to design, implement, and evaluate
students through a lesson I designed. I had planned how to achieve each students learning goals,
choosing appropriate strategies and accommodations, resources, and materials to differentiate instruction
for individuals and groups of learners. I understand the strengths and needs of the individual learners and
how to plan instruction that is responsive to these strengths and needs. I believe that my plans must
always be open to adjustment and revision based on the learners needs and changing circumstances.
