Nonprofit Reef Cleanup & Marine Research Group Receives $5,000 to Sponsor Upcoming Clearwater Artificial Reef Cleanup & Research Projects Clearwater, Fla. - Reef Monitoring, Inc. (RMI) announced today that it has received a $5,000 grant from the Nichols Foundation, aimed to help fund research projects, as well as to sponsor the upcoming Clearwater Artificial Reef Cleanup, which will be held on May 16, 2015, in Clearwater, Fla. We are very grateful for this generous grant from the Nichols Foundation, said Dr. Heyward Mathews, lead scientist at RMI and original creator of the Clearwater Marine Science Center. The grant will be used to sponsor the upcoming Clearwater Artificial Reef Cleanup, as well as other RMI research projects. It is the constant support from our community and friends, such as the Nichols Foundation, that enables us to continue helping our local marine environment and continue our research, and we are very appreciative, concluded Mathews. RMI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2010, and headquartered in Clearwater, Fla. RMIs purpose is to organize groups of marine scientists and educators as a means of protecting and preserving our invaluable natural and artificial reef systems. RMI is dedicated to providing educational programs, monitoring and improving our near-shore marine communities, advancing sustainable communities, helping build institutional ability, and gaining broad-based public support for on-going marine conservation, habitat enhancement and research and education programs. Currently, RMI has been monitoring three artificial and two natural reefs off Pinellas County.
