SYNOPSIS
In recent years fluid flow behaviour in a rotating cylinder has gained much of the
importance by the investigation because of the application in industry such as
centrifugal casting (horizontal and vertical).
Phenomena seen in the free flow inside a partially filled rotating cylinder depends
on parameters such as speed of the rotating cylinder, viscosity of liquid under
investigation, temperature of the liquid, cylinder aspect ratio. These parameters
have defined some of the flows such as Ekkmann, Marangoni, Coutte and Taylor
flow.
A lot of works have been carried out to study the behavior of fluids in rotating
cylinder. It has been shown the importance of fluid flow in material processing and
illustrated the nature of the basic problems, solution strategies and issues involved
in this area.
It has been observed that most of the work has been carried out to see the effect of
fluid flow behaviour considering various parameters in partially filled rotating
cylinder through experiments.
An attempt has been made in this work to investigate the fluid flow behaviour,
partially filled rotating cylinder. Here the fluid flow formation is studied by
varying the rotating speed and viscosity. The data which will be extracted from this
work is compared with the visual observations of different fluids inside a rotating
cylinder indicate the existence of certain critical value of the angular velocity for
the formation of liquid cylinder.
