To Whom It May Concern:
Amy Kolb has requested a letter in support of her qualifications as a middle
school teacher. I have known Amy for the past 3 months in the capacity of
working as a teacher next door to her classroom. I had the opportunity to
observe her mid-way through her student teaching.
Amy started the year off with many challenging obstacles. I think she has done
an amazing job of overcoming these challenges. She has shared with me her
teaching strategies she came with and how she had to modify them once she
was in the classroom. It was very evident that she wanted to experience middle
school first hand. She tackled the classroom independently and in return learned
the importance of classroom management.
It is very difficult to come into a classroom half way through the year and expect
everything to run smoothly. Amy was very aware of this and incorporated her
own teaching strategies into the classroom. She is able to reflect on a daily basis
and is open to suggestions. She is able to quickly reassess and enter the
classroom with new ideas and strategies.
The lesson I observed was planned out strategically, consisted of cross
curriculum content, and allowed for multiple transitions between activities. The
students were introduced to a new skill, Amy modeled how to do the skill, the
whole class practiced, there was some independent work, and the last activity
allowed for communication and movement. Overall, I think she did an excellent
job of creating the lesson and keeping the students engaged.
Amy has demonstrated throughout our interactions the qualities required to
excel in academic environments, she is creative, energetic, and professional. She
cares deeply about children and education. I have no hesitation in highly
recommending Amy for a teaching position in your district.
