Sponge Ecology:

Sponges make an ideal habitat habitat for small marine organisms because of
their large, cavernous insides. This provides them shelter from predators, as well as a
filter for food. Algae and other protists provide sponges with food and O2 in return for a
place to grow and multiply. Photosynthesizing sponges gather sunlight in deep water by
focusing light with spicules shaped like spiked antennae.

Comparison - Sponge and Jellyfish:

Unlike the sponge, the jellyfish has distinct organs made up of differentiated
cells. Like any developed organism, each jellyfish organ has a specific function
(digestion, reproduction, etc.) as well as cells specific to it. The jellyfish also has radial
symmetry, meaning each organ has a designated position.

Earthworm Comparison
The main difference between the Earthworm and the porifora/cnideria is the
presence of more specialized organs and bilateral symmetry. The worm contains a
nervous structure resembling a brain with nerve cells, as well as a circulatory systemeach with specific cells. It is also organised around a single line, giving it bilateral
symmetry and making it ideally suited for moving in the ground.

Mollusca Comparison
The Mollusca have Bilateral Symmetry, similar to Annelida, but are different to
Cniderians and Porifera. The Mollusca have nervous system that involves cephalization.
Cephalization is the concentration of the nerves with the body. The Annelida also have
cephalization, while Cniderians and Porifera dont.
Arthropoda Comparison
The Arthropoda havBilateral Symmetry, similar to Annelida and Mollusca, but are
different to Porifera and Cniderians. The Arthropoda have a nervous system that also
involves cephalization. They have an open circulatory system and breath with a variety
of systems including book lungs, tracheal tubes and book gills. They reproduce sexually
and they also have brains.
