injuries?
BY: SHAURI ALONSO

Why Im asking this question

I chose this topic because it is a common injury in

the sport I play, which is soccer.

Two girls on team have received this injury

What I already knew

ACL stands for Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Soccer is one of the sports most affiliated with this

injury
A majority of girls have this injury in the sport I play

What I wanted to learn

How this injury is caused
How it can be prevented
What exercises help prevent the risk factor

How I went about my search

Looked up online which workouts to perform, what

exactly an ACL injury is.

Discussed with my teammates their ACL injuries
Visited TOSH and spoke with my teammates
physical therapists

What I learned
There are specific types of training, such as jump

routines and learning to pivot properly, which help

prevent ACL injuries.
The sports that are most commonly linked to ACL
tears are basketball, football, soccer, and skiing.
A tear can be partial or complete depending on how
hard you get hit on the side of your knee
Overextending the knee joint, or when you quickly
stop moving and change direction while running,
landing from a jump, or turning

What I learned
strengthen your leg muscles enhances your

performance while also reducing risk of injury.

target weak muscle areas such as weak hips, which
can lead to a locked-knee landing position
Knowing which muscles to workout help prevent
injury

What I think about all this

I found my search really interesting and helpful in

knowing how to prevent this injury

I can also apply this knew information and use the
routines that I have learned about into my workouts
