Please respond to the following prompts:

1 Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional
Development experience.
This Professional Development was really a congregation of a bunch of
different professional developments. There were 12 different small
workshops throughout the day, 4 were always going on at the same
time, and we each got to pick 3 to go to. We also had one giant
workshop that everyone was required to go to about the West Virginia
Educator Evaluation System. Each of the other workshops pertained to
teaching reading, math, science or PE and were led by actual teachers
who have been there and experienced what its like to actually teach
these subjects; what works, what doesnt, best methods, etc. I went to
workshops entitled A Balanced Reading Diet, STEM-ulate Your
Classroom, and The Math Assessment Project (MAP) Formative
Assessment.

2 Discuss how these key points connect to your content area.

I learned so much while spending the day here and having the
opportunity to participate in these workshops. It was so helpful to get
to hear from and be taught by people who know what theyre talking
about. Each of the workshops I personally went to that pertained to
reading, science, and math connect back to my content area of

Elementary Education because I will be responsible for teaching each

of these subjects to my future students.

3 Share how you might use this new information in your future
classroom.
I could use the information I learned from this seminar in any school I
could become employed in as well as any grade. For example, I learned
about reading levels and the importance of covering and spending
equal time on all components of RLA standards. I also learned the
importance of getting your kids involved in active learning through the
STEM-ulate workshop. As for the math workshop, I learned the
importance of scaffolding math skills and building tiered levels of
thinking; progressively going from easy to hard when it comes to math
concepts. All of the information I learned in these workshops will prove
to be of great importance to me when I have my own classroom.
