Materials: Pencils, Paper, Markers, White Boards, Crayons, Color Pencils,


Computer, Magazine or News Paper Ads
Day 1 Instruction:

Begin by lesson by stating that I think that Vanilla Ice Cream is the
Best Ice Cream in the World. Ask students if they agree. Then go into
why this statement is an opinion. Let students know that although fact

and opinion seems easy, that it is really easy to take mistake and
opinion as fact depending on how it is presented.
Students will then view a video on the different between fact and
opinion time: 3 minutes 21 seconds
Students will discuss what was seen in the video, and then write their
own examples of a fact and an opinion to test a partner.
Students will then watch two more videos on fact and opinion: Video 1:
4 minutes and 29 seconds. Video 2: 1 minute and 53 seconds
Students will then play Binkies fact and opinion game.
To end the lesson, student will do a whole class activity that has them
review biographies for facts and opinions

Day 2 Instruction:

Students will start the class with a quick review.


Students will take a fact and opinion quiz
Students will spend the rest of the class creating an advertisement for
a product. They will be encouraged to use Microsoft word or any Web
tool they are comfortable with. The advertisement must contain 3 facts
and 3 opinions. Include pictures from the Creative Commons website.

Assessment: Students will take a quiz on the second day of instruction.


They will also create a product that shows their understanding of the
concepts.
