Delivery of Instruction
In EDU 218, we have spent a lot of time learning about delivery of instruction. In my
clinical observation classroom, my mentor teacher encourages student centered learning to help
the students learn better. She realizes that students learn better when they feel responsible,
therefore allows her students to be responsible of their learning. In the classroom, she allows
students to choose from a list of different activities that fit with what they are learning. She also
asks students to have conversations and share with the class their knowledge of each new
topic. For example, students are starting to learn about animals. The first animal is a giraffe. My
mentor teacher asked students to each share with their classmates all that they know about
giraffes. Then, students were able to choose which subtopic of giraffes they want to learn about
such as food, habitat etc. Then, students create their own representation of what they believe is
important about giraffes to share with their classmates. Using this technique of student centered
learning has helped students to become more excited for their own learning.
