a) Definition

-Malnutrition:
Malnutrition is the lack of nutrition, usually caused by not having
enough to eat or by eating an unbalanced diet. People who suffer
from malnutrition are malnourished.
-Coronary Heart Disease:
This is when the arteries are narrowed due to a build up of fat and
cholesterol within the wall of the artery. The coronary arteries supply
oxygen to our heart, so if theyre blocked, the heart muscles cannot
function properly with a shortage of oxygen. This can also cause
blood clotting, and heart attacks, as a result.
-Alcoholism:
Alcoholism is the addiction to the consumption of alcoholic drinks.
Alcoholism is a disease, and the person usually cannot manage
properly without alcohol.

b) Causes:
How does malnutrition, coronary heart disease and alcoholism
relate?
Malnutrition and alcoholism
Many alcoholics become malnourished either because they consume
too few essential nutrients, because they use alcohol as a substitute
meals. With a decreasing appetite and unbalanced diet, they
become malnourished.
Malnutrition and coronary heart disease
Poor nutritional habits can lead to coronary artery disease, because
it can lead to high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, diabetes
and obesity.

c) Cures/Prevention:
Generally, to prevent malnutrition, alcoholism and coronary heart
disease:
-Stay at a healthy weight.
-Eat a heart-healthy diet to help control your cholesterol and
blood pressure.

d) Statistics:
-UNICEF:

In Africa and Asia, about 3,000,000 deaths of children under 5 are

related to malnutrition each year.
-WORLD HUNGER STATISTICS:
800 million people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition.
