1. Ogier Gardens is a student staffed organically grown garden on
the UNF campus. - Funded by the Student Life Fee, along with donations from the Jacksonville Zoo, Earth Works and other organizations. - Largely involved on the UNF campus and in the Jacksonville community Provides much of the produce for Chartwells Dining on campus. Works with Lend- a-Wing Pantry on campus along with other food banks. 2. Ogier Gardens works to educate students and the community on the importance of healthy eating, along with other aspects of farming and agriculture - Works with Healthy Osprey, the Environmental Center, The Department of Health Promotion. It provides workshops and training for UNF students. Topics include organic gardening, food choices, and education on where the food we eat comes from. - Ogier Gardens is also involved in students on campus earn their degrees. Ecology students are required to spend a certain amount of hours in the garden for some of their classes. 3. There are many different places to volunteer and get involved in the gardens. - There is a need for more volunteers due to the exiting of many of the Senior and junior volunteers that currently spend their time here. Students can benefit from the hands- on gardening experience and the free produce that volunteers are able to take with them. The volunteer hours are also beneficial for resumes. - There is also an Adopt- A-Bed program for clubs and students.
Students, clubs, and campus organizations can
adopt a specific plot that they are responsible for tending and taking care of. It requires two hours a week, but the sponsors are rewarded with the harvest of their assigned plot.
