tostay,butthePrincewontallowhimto.ButthentheNursecomesandtellshimtogosee
Juliet,whichimproveshismoodalot.HavingNursetalktohim,improveshismoodsomuch
thathebecomesmotivatedtovisitJuliet.Theobstacleforhiminthisscenewasgettingoverhis
sadnesssothathecouldgovisitJuliet.Onceheovercomeshissadnessandgetsaholdofhimself,
hethenisabletogovisitJuliet,makinghimveryhappy.InordertogettoJuliet,itisnotRomeo
thattakescreditforpersuadinghimself,itstheFriarandNurse.Theybothareverypersuasivein
thissceneandconvincehimtodowhatmustbedone.
ThemajorityofthesceneRomeoisamess.Heiscrying,wailing,andpracticallydying
becauseoftheprospectofnotseeingJuliet.Atonepointheevenconsiderssuicide,justtoget
outofthesituation.Hehassuperhugemoodswings,andispracticallyinhysteria.Hedidnt
reallyknowwhathewasdoing,allhewasthinkingaboutwasinthismomenthowsadhewas.
Interpretingthisasanactorwashard,butItriedtoconveythathealmosthadamentaldisorder,
becauseonesecondhewastryingtokillhimselfoveralmostnothing,thenexthappilyskipping
offtoJuliets.SoIreallytriedtoshowthesuddenmoodswingassomethingthatsnotnormal.

TheFriarwanttohelpRomeodealwithhisbanishmentbecauseheknowshowupsetRomeois
overthenewsofhisbanishment.However,Romeostandsinhisway,andinsteadoflettingthe
Friarconsolehimandhelpsolvehisproblems,hebecomesemotionalandthinksonlyofnot
beingwithJulietanddoesnotlistentotheFriarsadviceorsolutions,andeventhreatenstotake
hislife.TheFriarconfrontsRomeoofbeingsodramaticandtellshimthathislifewillbecome
better,thathewasluckytostillbealive,andthathecanstillbewithJuliet.ItisntexactlyFriar
LawrenceslecturethatconvincesRomeotoJulietandmakeshimhappy,buttheNurse.The
NurseconfrontsRomeoofhisunmanlinessandgiveshimJulietsring,althoughtheFriars

ItriedtoportraytheFriarasthatcooladultthatalltheteenagerswouldgotoiftheyneededhelp

fromanadult,andwhotriestohelpasmuchaspossible,butsometimestheadultinhimtakes
overandhegetsfrustratedwithRomeobeingsoimmature.

InAct3,Scene3,theNursewantstoinformtheFriarandRomeothatJulietiscryingjust
asmuchasRomeo.TheNursetriestotellRomeotocomeandcomfortJuliet.Theonlyreason
whytheNursecame,wasbecauseJulietwasdepressedandtheNursedidnotlikeseeingherthis
way.HerobstacleinthisscenewastryingtoconvinceRomeotostopbeingacrybabyandgo
visitJuliet.OncetheNursetoldRomeothatshewastherebecauseofJuliet,Romeoquicklygot
upandeagerlyaskedherabouthislovewithJuliet.TogetRomeotoleave,shegivesRomeoa
ringfromJuliet.ThischangedRomeosmoodcompletelyandthisishowtheNursepersuasively
completedherobstacle.
AllshewasthinkingaboutthewholetimewasJulietshappiness.Shewasnothappy
beforeshewenttogetRomeo.ThisshowsthatshetrulycaresaboutJulietandwoulddo
anythingforher.ShebasicallyraisedherandisamotherfiguretoJuliet.Interpretingthisasan
actorwasnottoohard.Shedidntchangemoods.Sheonlyhadonevoice,whichwasemotional.
