Whatever instrument you play, you will probably find a suitable orchestra
to join at DHSB. Some of the orchestras include: brass band, woodwind,
string orchestra, orchestra and senior orchestra. Most of these orchestras
are run by either Mr Newton, respective instrument teachers or even
in some cases, students. Nearly all of them are run during lunchtime,
although on rare occasions some practices take place after school. Apart
from just playing for fun, some of the orchestras get chances to perform
during assembly and at some of our school concerts. They also play a
huge part in our yearly performances of play adaptations. Since most of
the performances are musicals, such as Bugsy Malone, Guys & Dolls and
Oliver, without the orchestras, there would be no music in our musicals;
thats not good, is it now? Recently, a few Senior orchestras have been
started, which are exclusively for students who are grade 5 or over in their
respective instruments. This means that these more advanced orchestras
can play more advanced pieces than the others. Some of these orchestras
are selected to entertain the audience during important school events such
a speech day, where they get a chance to show off their skill. Joining one
of the orchestras at DHSB can help you to develop your ability to play with
other people and work together as a band.
