Film Production Evaluation Question

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing this product?
As far as equipment goes our group has used the same set of instruments
for both the preliminary task and the examined film opening:

Canon DSLR

Tripod

MacBook Pro

iMovie

The jump from the SD camcorder to the DSLR better, everything about the
DSLR was an improvement. We were then able to film in full HD and have
full control over all the settings of the camera allowing us to achieve clear
but focused long shots. Also another feature would be that we could
change the lenses on the camera to give our production a wider variety of
shots such as Establishing shots, close-ups est. Finally the weather sealing
on the DSLR meant that the camera was able to be operated in the poor
weather conditions we were shooting in.
Throughout the filming process myself and
Adam both took it in terns in using the
camera equipment as we both had separate
roles within our production. When we had
completed our filming we both had to edit our
video, Adam done most of the editing himself
where as i was coming up with ideas for a title
sequence and logo planning. But during my past productions i have used
this type of editing software before.
However, there were some limitations with
the technology we had. IMovie is not the
Most advanced editing software available
which meant that we couldnt achieve
some of the desired effects in postproduction. E.g. Colour mixing was used
but it was not as subtle as the look we
were going for due to this software.
Following on we were able to import our
film succefully to imovie and had no
problems editing it and even though it

wasnt the best software we could use it still helped us complete and edit
our product to our liking.
For the background music we used a royalty free website that would allow
us to download for free non copyrighted music. In the early stages of
planning we used the simple Microsoft PowerPoint as a means of
distributing a questionnaire in order to gain feedback from a variety of
people on the dystopian film genre. Our initial plan was to use the video
editing software Motion to digital impose more sophisticated titles over
our original production. But because of the limited access for software and
the limit on time we came to the conclusion that the standard iMovie titles
would have to be sufficient for our needs.
Some of the disadvantages to our media production was the fact that we
had a wide range of camera equipment and lenses but we were only
limited to what the school had to offer. So we could have used things like
a mic, LED lights, digital recorder est. Compared to proper Hollywood star
movies, the limitation to equipment was nothing, films such as Die hard
and Terminator takes big preparation into affording the types of
equipments that are used to created specific scenes within the movie.
