The Kimberly-Clark Corporations mission statement is leading the world in essentials

for a better life. We make known and trusted products and distribute them worldwide to
hospitals and homes, making a positive difference in our consumers lives. Started in 1872, John
A Kimberly, Havilah Babcock, Charles Clark, and Frank Shattuck invested together in Wisconsin
to form what today is the Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Since then we have grown to over
58,000 employees all over the world, with our headquarters located in Irving, TX.
As a company our core values are People, Planet, and Products. One of the corporations
we have donated over $7 million dollars to is, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas. Not
only do they share the common value of helping people just as we do, but they bring together
communities by focusing on youth and their families. Since 1965 the Dallas chapter as put
together many programs and activities for children to learn important skills and embrace their
characters.
That is why, we, the marketing team at Kimberly-Clark has developed a 25K bike ride
and carnival in Downtown Dallas. Through a healthy, fun family day, we hope to raise not only
money, but recruitment in the Dallas area, helping it grow and encourage our youth.
Through months of advertising, we expect a positive outcome as we have seen with
Kimberly-Clark promoted events in the past and if it does, it will generate great revenue which
will be one hundred percent donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas.
Holding this event could uplift the entire community as it will encourage participation
from anyone and everyone in the Dallas community.

Background
Kimberly-Clark is requesting the Dallas Chamber of Commerce to approve the Bike Ride as an
event to help raise awareness and funds to expand the Boys and Girls Club. If approved, we also
kindly ask for a monetary donation to sponsor to this event and participation from the Chambers
members in both the bike ride and carnival.

Kimberly-Clark is passionate about providing people with essentials

for a better life by adding convenience to daily routines with some

of the worlds most recognized products. We believe in helping
people in three main areas- People, Planet, and Products. We use
our own resources and money to try to make the future a better
place for everyone. We have done many charitable events to help
raise awareness and helping the community. Examples include
helping the countries of Chile and Haiti when they were hit with
devastating earthquakes and donating to Indonesia after the
tsunami destroyed their community in 2004.

The Boys and Girls club is an organization that serves about 4

million people annually, providing kids with a safe place to learn
and grow. Their mission is to help enable youth by providing
them a place for them to be supported and learn to grow as
productive, caring, responsible people. They offer club programs
and services that instill a sense of competence, usefulness, and
belonging while promoting being active and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas specifically
has programs to focus on academic success, good character and
citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. There are currently 13 local
clubs in the Greater Dallas area.

Plan of Action
The 25k Bike Ride and Carnival is an event put on by Kimberly Clark as a fundraiser
for the Dallas chapter of the Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Club (BGC) is
an Organization that Kimberly-Clark has donated to multiple times in the past
because both organizations promote healthy living and helping the community.
In January of this year the Dallas Morning News ran a news story that said the Dallas
Independent School District had over 30 of the worst schools in the state.
Graduation rates in the district have also recently been low- 3 in 10 kids will not
graduate this year. A strong value of BGC is that a childs family, especially their
parents, greatly impacts a childs life. Studies have shown BGC club members
graduate from high school at a rate of 87%. This is why weve chosen them as our
beneficiary of all revenue generated through this event; if we can encourage more
youth and their families within the Dallas community to get involved in the BGC,
these bad academic statistics will shrink.
All of the proceeds going to the Boys and Girls club are going towards the
recruitment of more academic tutors and to established fitness camps in the
Greater Dallas area.
Kimberly Clark intends to hold the first 25k Bike Ride on September 14, 2013 to
uphold both companies value of health and fitness. The event will begin with the
bike race at White Rock Lake at 8 am and end at 11 am. The race will be followed
by a carnival at White Rock Lake.

In the event that inclement weather occurs, the

event will be held the following Saturday, September 21 st.

In total, there will be 1,000 attendees. 500 of these attendees will be participants in
the bike race. Attendees and participants will include both adults and children;
competitors must be 8 or older.

Registration
Registration will be online and will begin exactly a month before the Bike Ride on
August 14, 2013. The deadline will be September 12, 2013. All registered
participants will need to arrive no later than 7:30a.m the day of the ride to pick up
their registration bag and have their bikes and helmets inspected. The registration

To Whom it May Concern:
A few weeks ago Kimberly-Clark Corporation approached me about my opinion on their event
about a Charity Bike Ride for the Boys and Girls Club of America. My organization has done
similar events to keep our soccer programs running.
Their event is a lot like our summer camps we have to not only raise money to help
support our Soccer league. Our summer camps raise thousands of dollars for our organization
and raises awareness about health and soccer. Their Bike Ride has a similar effect in my opinion
because there are people very passionate about biking and about health. From the data they have
given me it seems like they have used their money very well and could end up donating millions
to the Boys and Girls Club of America because it seems like they have a way to attract every
type of person, even non-bike riders. This event could become annual because I feel that people
would want to participate in this event year after year.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this worthy cause.

To Whom it May Concern:
I have been a manager for the Donation Department for The American Red Cross for over 10
years. Kimberly-Clark Corporation has showed me a proposal for a Bike Ride/mini carnival to
help raise awareness in Childrens health. They are helping a great organization, which is the
Boys and Girls Club of America because they need money to keep their childrens program stateof the art and helpful for children. Their Bike Ride idea is great because from my experience it
should work because it is something people enjoy doing and it attracts people of all ages, even
celebrities.
Their event reminds me of an annual event we usually have called the 12th Annual Dr. Cal
Bergsma Charity Golf Outing. This event allows people to come and play at one of the nicest
country club in America called the Spring Lake Country Club in Spring Lake, MI. Every year
this event raises thousands of dollars from sponsors and fans of golfing. I feel that their Bike
Ride could have the same effect because there are many fanatics of biking in Dallas and there are
many companies that believe in health for childrens.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this worthy cause.
