    totheIndianaSenate.TheSenateBill284titledMedicalmarijuanaproposes
    establishingamedicalmarijuanaprogramandadepartmentofmarijuanaenforcement
    tooverseethemedicalmarijuanaprogram.TheBillcreatesaheavilyregulatedmedical
    marijuanaprogramforthosewhohavearecommendationfromtheirphysician.Those
    withrecommendationsfromtheirphysicianwouldberequiredtofollowthestrict
    guidelines,thatwouldbeputinplaceconcerningtheamounttheywouldbeallowedto
    possessandadheretoalladditionalregulations.
    IsupportthisBill,becauseIbelievethatinacontrolledsettingmedicalmarijuana
    canbeextremelybeneficialtothequalityoflifeofthosesufferingfromvariousdiseases.
    AsofMarch2014,twentystateshavelegalizedtheuseofmedicalmarijuanaandI
    believeIndianashouldseriouslyconsiderthebenefitsofmedicalmarijuanawhenvoting
    onthisBill.Medicalmarijuanahastheabilitytobeanextremelybeneficialinfluenceon
    thequalityoflifeofthosesufferingfromseverepain,nausea,andweightlosscaused
    byamultitudeofdiseases,includingautoimmunediseases,cancer,seizures,andeven
    somepsychiatricdisorders.
    Tertiarypreventionisalayerofpreventionthatisoftenoverlooked,becauseof
    thelackofoptions.Asahealthsciencemajor,Ihonestlybelievethattheuseofmedical
    marijuanacouldserveasabeneficialtreatmentoptionforawiderangeofillnesses.I
    stronglyencourageyoutoconsidertheimportanceofthisBill,andthepotentialimpactit
    canhaveonthequalityoflifeandhealthstatusofmanyHoosiers.Iwouldgreatly
    appreciatearesponseregardingyourthoughts.
