The Interview

Thursday: Francis Wolfe (Cousin)


Friday: Joe Magier (Friend)
Saturday: Eta Gluzband (Friend)

These interview questions are only in case my subject is having a hard time opening up, or if the
interview itself gets offtrack - many of these questions are not written how I will be saying them.
This is nearly just an outline of what I hope to get answered.

I. Background + Childhood

- Tell them about my project, and what I hope to accomplish.


- Could you tell me your name, date of birth, and where you were born?
- What was it like living in _____?
- What were your parents names?
- Did you have any siblings?
- Did you have any good friends growing up?
- What can you tell me about your childhood?
- what was a Sunday like for you?
- Was your family considered observant jews?
- Did you keep kosher?
- Did you go to temple/shul?
- Did you have a bar/ bat mitzvah?
- What was it like?
II. Ghetto/ Beginnings
- When did you first notice changes in your community/village/town?
-What were the changes?
- Were you placed in a ghetto?

-if so, which one and for how long?


- what year?
- Can you describe what your living conditions were like?
-Who lived with you?
- Can you tell me what a typical day was like? What did you have to do everyday?
- What were the Nazis like?
- Were they all terrible?

III. Deportation
-What happened next?
- Where did you go?
- How did you get there? - Can you describe your journey?
-What happened when you arrived?
-Were people aware of what was going to happen?
- Do you remember :
-conversations people had about where they thought they were going?
-What you thought was going to happen?
- At this point in time, whom from your family was still with you?
- If missing, what happened to them?

IV. Arrival/ Processing


- What happened next?
-Can you give me descriptions?
- Where did you end up?
- How were you processed as a prisoner?
- What is your number?
- Can you describe the experience to getting branded?
Was there a line? - Did you know what was going on?

V. Survival
- How long were you there?
- How did you survive?
- What was prison life like?
- Did you have a job?
- What was a day in the life of you?
- What were the other prisoners like?
-Did you know any of them?
- Is there a particular day that especially memorable?
- If so, what happened?
- Why was it so memorable?
- Did you move?
- If so, when?

VI. Liberation
- How, when, and by whom were you liberated?
- How did it feel?
Did you cry, laugh, smile?
-How old were you now?
- Where did you go next?
- DP (displacement) Camp? Hospital?

VII. Regaining Life


- What were your next plans?
-Israel? America?
- Did you go back to your hometowns?
- If so, what was that like?
- Did you find anyone from your town?

- Who survived from your family?


-What was your journey like to America?
- How did your life continue?

VIII. Closing Thoughts:


- Was there anyone who you encountered that was unforgettable?
- Did you ever experience joy in the camps?
- Why is your story important to share?
- Why do you want future generations to know your story?

Possible Question:
Do you feel that by by having your story filmed, and showing it to young adults, it could
be better than having them view a historical fiction Hollywood film?
