The Haswell Microarchitecture - 4th Generation Processor
Background
The Haswell processor is Intels 4th generation 22nm processors
for computers and electronic devices. Its microarchitecture is
based on the previous Ivy Bridge processors, but it has
significant improvements on the performance over the Ivy
Bridge. This is an analytical paper which analyzes the design,
development, and application of Haswell processors, aiming to
find out what level of upgrade the new processor has and how
much more powerful the new processor is.
Method
The author analyzes the new processor with a scientific view by
comparing its microarchitecture, power efficiency, graphics
performance, and memory system with the older processors.
Statistical data are gathered from published papers and reports
from Intel and research institutions. The information are sorted
and made into charts and graphs for comparisons.
Results
The Haswell processors have better performance in all the
compared categories, and have significant advantages over the
older versions in several criteria, making them the best
candidates for computing units in computers.
Conclusion
This paper achieved its aim, proving that the Haswell processors
have better performance by supporting with statistical data. It
says that the Haswell processors will serve as the main core in
electric devices, enable the electronic industries to create
products with higher efficiency and better quality.
