Briefing Notes

Domestic Violence
Claires Law The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme goes live nationwide on 08 March 2014, giving
members of the public a right to ask Police where they have a concern that their partner may
pose a risk to them or where they are concerned that the partner of a member of their family or
a friend may pose a risk to that individual.
If an application is made under the scheme, Police and partner agencies will carry out checks
and if they show that the partner has a record of abusive offences, or there is other information
to indicate that there may be a risk from the partner, the Police will consider sharing this
information.
To make an application people need to go to a police station themselves where police staff will
make details of the enquiry. They will then create a safe means of contacting you. They will
need you name, DOB and address.

Photo shopping
The Shocking Truth There are multiple videos on YouTube outlining the shocking truth about
photoshop and how it changes the idea of the perfect body image.
Issues with PhotoShop-

Medical associations believe there is a link between the alterations made by

photoshop that are unrealistic. This unrealistic view appropriate body image- especially
among impressionable children and adolescents.
A large body of literature links exposure to media-propagated images of
unrealistic body image to eating disorders and other child and adolescent health
problems.
Dying to be Barbie- The numbers are stunning: Four out of five 10-year-olds
say that they're afraid of being fat. 42% of girls in first through third grade wish they were
thinner. And, half of girls aged 9 or 10 claim that they feel better about themselves when
they're dieting.

South Thanet InformationA coastal seat, snaking around the eastern coast of the Isle of Thanet and then south into Dover
to include the historic Cinque port of Sandwich and the rural villages inland from it, including Ash
and Wingham. The main centres of population is the ferry port, fishing town and coastal resort
of Ramsgate, the more genteel seaside town of Broadstairs and Cliftonville, a residential part of
Margate. Thanet suffers from the economic problems often associated with declining seaside
towns, and has some of the most deprived wards in the otherwise generally affluent Kent.
