Gun Control Inquiry Project Proposal
The inquiry question I have formed for the inquiry project is, what has sparked the
increased advocacy for gun control laws to be imposed on citizens in the United States and
would it cause crime rates to decrease? Questions I am going to use to fuel my research are some
of the questions that follow. What is the reason behind the Second Amendment and what are its
terms? What laws already exist pertaining to the purchase, owning, and carrying of firearms?
What are some factors that may have sparked this controversy? What are some common
characteristics of people for and against gun control laws? What gun control laws have been
proposed? Are there any gun control laws that exist in states throughout the United States? What
are some pros and cons of stricter gun laws? The hypothesis I am trying to prove is that stricter
gun laws would not decrease crime rates. My history of firearm use has formed a personal bias
for this topic. I grew up shooting all types of firearms, and was taught gun safety at a young age.
I have not had any personal experiences where firearms were handled improperly or
irresponsibly. This has caused me to disagree with stricter gun laws, and find them unnecessary. I
want to challenge the bias I have about this topic, and try to look at this controversy through the
eyes of the advocates for strict gun laws.
