Internet censorship has been a topic of major discussion in Australia for

many past years. The Australian Communications and Media Authority are
responsible for enforcing restrictions on content in Australia and monitor
sites overseas that are blacklisted. The main content to be filtered are but
not limited to child pornography, sexual violence, and other illegal activities,
compiled as a result of a consumer complaints process.
From results posted on a Surveying Site YourOpinion Survey Results
and News citizens in Australia expressed their opinions on the topic. A total
of 5,530 people were surveyed, 2434 men and 3096 women. 33% of the men
agreed with Australias internet censorship and filtering on the opposite side
55% of the women agreed and a little over 10% of each had no opinion on
the subject. According to the results of the survey the majority of those men
and women in favor of the filtering were between the ages of 55 to 64 years
old, on the contrary those between the ages of 18 to 24 years old disagreed

with it. When the results were broken up and distributed between individual
states 47% was the median percentage for those in favor of filtering.

In conclusion it was shown that little varied between different regions,

older people were more likely to be in favor on filtering and censoring the
internet and more women agreed with it. The reasons for these results are
not only relevant in Australia but are very similar to those of other countries
around the world.
