Introduction: For my project, I chose to ask 22 different student at the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte about their favorite genres of music. I realize that genres of music can be diverse, but I did try to
cover as many genres as possible with my research. The results of this polling and an explanation of how my
results were gathered can be found below.

Methodology: To gather my data, I simply asked people what their favorite genre of music is; they could only
choose one. If their answer was not on my list, I would tell them the available genres to see which one of my

options fit their choice the most. For example, Classic Rock became Rock. Rarely, I would end up adding a
genre if I felt that it was not represented on my list. As for the results, Rock and Metal had the most votes
with eight participants selecting that genre with Hip Hop or Rap and Electronic earning the second most
votes. While you could conclude that Rock and Metal are the most popular genres among college students,
more testing would be required to confirm this notion.
