Overview of Activity
In this Activity students are to distinguish fact from opinions in
relation to civics and citizenship. Students will each be given either
a fact or opinion, which has a corresponding pair; students go
around the classroom and inquire with other students to find their
pair. Then they identify, analyse and compare the language choices
depending on the purpose of the text.
Learning Objectives
In this lesson students will:
Identify their cards topic, fact or opinion. Then inquire about
other students cards to find the same topic. (ACHCS005)
Compare the language choices of the different types and
identify the specific language to each type. (ACELA1478)

Learning Intention
The learning intention of this activity is provide students with a
hands on activity that allows them to gain an understanding of the
different language choices between fact and opinions.

For: Throughout the lesson the educator has opportunities to
provide feedback and observe students ability to analyse a text and
comprehend the meaning.

To assist with students with low literacy levels, the educator
can provide assistance in comprehending the text.
If a student is unable to operate ICT due to diverse needs,
school officer may provide assistance.
For students who do not participate with others well in a social
setting, allow them to work with a buddy that they can work
with.
