Statement of Standard Seven- Planning for Instruction
The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by
drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy,
as well as knowledge of learners and the community context. (NJPTSB, 2014, Pg 31)
Name of Artifact: Unit Plan
Date of Artifact: Spring 2015
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-02
Rationale Statement:
For this artifact my group and I had to create three lesson plans that connected to an overall
unit. The lessons needed to be adaptable for all kind of students. This lesson and its
assessment allow for so many adaptations to cater to every type of learner. The final
assessment allows students to work within groups and lets them figure out and apply their
strengths.
This standard is one that I find incredibly important and hits home for me. I was one of those
students who needed things adapted. It was not because I was any more intelligent or less
intelligent than my peers but because I just learned and applied things in a different way than
most. I had a difficult time with tests and need a more creative outlet to keep me motivated. That
is why as a future teacher it is important to be capable of adaptation. Your lesson plans need to
be flexible for students.
I plan on using this layout for my future lessons. This lesson and its assessments are incredibly
flexible and allow the teacher to change them for each student. If a student has a difficult time
writing the journal entry can be changed to a drawing or a verbal explanation that the teacher
can write down. If a student finds a simple journal entry in the words of a colonist is too easy
then it can be adapted into critical assessment of how and why the colonist are thinking the way
they are.
