Maglev Train Breaks Speed Record

The Japanese Maglev train is the fastest passenger train
in the world and broke its own speed record. The
train's previous record was 581 km per hour; this
record was set in 2003. Operator JR Central said that it
reached a record breaking 603 km per hour during a
test run on Tuesday, April 21st. The train was tested at
Yamanashi which is west of Tokyo. They are confident
that their technology will help shape this new
generation of trains they have created. Japan's rail
services are some of the most advanced in the whole
world with hundreds of trains running each day. The
comfort that the passengers have at this speed has
improved and such test results shall lead to a stable
commercial use in future. Maglev technology is based

ANIMAL STORIES
50 Rabbits Saved

Fifty rabbits were taken from land outside of

Nanaimo due to a complaint stating that there
are animals living in distress. The BCSPCA
found dozens of rabbits in a small cage with
feces, barley any air ventilation, and a scarce
amount of food and water. That property was
in a terrible condition with garbage everywhere.
Many of the rabbits were underweight and had
extremely long nails that curled. It is said to be
the largest amount of rabbit cruelty in history.
There is information that the owners did not
take action after orders to relieve the animals in
distress. Investigators believe that they were
only grown for meat and show. They are now
being moved to different shelters for more
care. Most of the rabbits are ready to be
adopted, so now the SPCA is hoping for
people to bring the furry creatures to a new
home.

commercial use in future. Maglev technology is based

on simple physics like how opposite magnetic poles
attract and how poles repel each other. By chilling
down the powerful electromagnetics, engineers can
lift the train about 10 centimeters off the ground. As
well, another set of electromagnets are used to push it
along. Central Japan's railways are hoping its Maglev
technology will be used on a planned high-speed line
between Washington and New York. They will keep
continuing test to prove the safety and the efficiency
of this new technology.

1983*
Video games are so popular nowadays; it is hard to believe
they almost disappeared in the past. It was 1983; business
was great, a certain few companies had a virtual monopoly
on the industry, and sales were booming. That was
precisely the problem. Companies like Atari, Mattel, and
Coleco spit out games like they expected sales to double
every year. Other companies, who couldnt make games
worth a grain of salt, wanted in on the profits, too. The
home computer industry was also rising, with Commodore
and Apple soon becoming the main source of gaming. The
industry was soon knee-deep in rubbish games, and thats
what drove away gamers. The only way to avoid
losing...was to not play. Gaming was suddenly becoming
yesterdays fad. Retailers discounted games for 20 dollars,
then 10, 5, even 2 dollars. Anything to get them off the
shelves. Kids could still buy their Hot-Wheels and G.I. Joes,
but retailers would never let the horror of a video game pass
through their receiving bays again. Thats all for today! Join
me next time as we take a look at Nintendos resurrection
of the market-meanwhile, read the rest of the Yellow
Fellows Newspaper!

New Aluminum-Ion Batteries Recharge in Just a Minute

Researchers at Stanford have run into a major
breakthrough that could change the way we use
electronics. This long-lasting and quick-charging
battery is aluminum-ion instead of lithium-ion, which
is both durable and charges extremely quickly.
Researchers were trying out different materials to use
as a cathode, and stumbled upon this new groundbreaking battery. Amazingly, one of the prototypes
recharged in only 60 seconds, which is about 60
times quicker than a lithium-ion battery. This new
aluminum-ion battery seems extremely promising. It
also seems to be very durable. It can withstand over
7,500 charge-discharge cycles before wearing down,
as opposed to the approximately 1,000 that lithium-

Man Develops Shoes That Grow
Kenton lee, a man who has devoted his life to finding
practical ways to improve the lives of those in poverty by
creating a ground-breaking accessory. He calls it The Shoe
That Grows. This is an adjustable shoe with five sizes, and
can last for up to five years on a child. The initial purpose of
this fine invention was for people in poverty to save money
on shoes. When their children grow out of their old shoes,
the poor citizens could save money by using the same shoes
and adjusting them. This shoe has already been distributed to
millions of children across Kenya, and this project was
funded by Because International. This company believes in
practical joy. This project has positively affected the health of
thousands of children by defending their feet from all sorts of
bacteria in the soil. It just goes to show you; that a pair of
shoes could change a life.

ion can handle. Earlier aluminum-ion models could

only withstand about 100. The battery is also flexible
and safe. Researchers bore into one of the prototypes
without causing a fire, which is not possible with a
lithium-ion battery. The prototype is also flexible,
which will be a major benefit to anything that runs
on batteries. Because of its size, it can be fitted to
match most electronic devices.

Edmonton Wins 1# Draft Pick

The Edmonton Oilers have yet again won the first overall pick in the NHL
draft lottery last Saturday. The Oilers had a 11.5% chance of being able to
win the first overall pick; Two others teams had a greater chance than the
Oilers to win the first pick, including the Buffalo Sabres, the worst team in
the league. The Buffalo Sabres had the greatest chance in winning the pick
with a 20% chance. Following them was the Arizona Coyotes who had a
13.5% chance. The first pick provides Edmonton with the ability to draft the
predicted superstar Connor McDavid. McDavid is considered a play of a
generation being compared to players such as Sidney Crosby and Mario
Lemieux; some would even say Wayne Gretzky. Many McDavid fans worry,
as Edmonton has a reputation of where great prospects go to waste. When
asked on how he felt about going to the Oilers McDavid replied It's an
amazing organization, and a true honor to be going there. McDavid has
tallied 44 goals and 120 points in the 47 games he had played with the Erie
Otters. The ability of being able to draft Connor McDavid has excited many
Oiler fans as the team hasnt made the playoffs in 9 years now despite their 4
first overall picks in the last 6 seasons.
