Ms. Santucci has worked under my ‘guidance in my Intermediate/Advanced English Language Development class for the past semester. Specifically, she has been facilitating @ reading group of advanced students and leading them in discussion and inquiry about a novel. | have witnessed tremendous growth in the reading fluency and comprehension of my students since they began working with her. More importantly, she has them so completely engaged in the novel that they can't wait to read the next chapter! ‘The students tell me they appreciate how Ms. Santucci is able to simplify the intricacies of the plot to a level that they can understand. They tell me she is very patient anc they very ‘much enjoy working with her. Her knowledge of language, and language acquisition is. invaluable in this endeavor. She effectively uses SDAIE strategies and native language ‘support when appropriate. Her teaching style is collaborative and friendly and facilitates the confidence students need to open up and ask questions. | have also found Ms. Santucci to be highly collegial and professional. On numerous ‘occasions we have engaged in dialogue about curricular questions and lesson planning with regard to the Spanish 1 and 2 classes she is also teaching. Ms. Santucci is reflective land conscientious in her planning and adjusts strategies and curriculum as necessary to fit the changing needs of the class, Ms, Santucci holds an Anthropology degree from UC Berkeley with an emphasis on folklore and Latin American studies, which enriches her language learning instruction by incorporating a cultural element. She is in the final stages of completing her Single Subject ‘Spanish teaching credential with an authorization to teach English Language Development through Dominican University of California. Her program has a specific focus on project-based learning and Understanding by Design planning; the focus is on getting to know the students and finding areas for growth. This is evident in her teaching practice through the thoughtfulness and flexibility she demonstrates in her planning, Any institution would be lucky to have her!
