To Whom It May Concern:
‘The intention of this letter is to express my sincere recommendation of Ms. Christina
‘Santucci-Czerny for a position as a high school teacher. Ms. Santucci has worked under my
‘guidance in my Intermediate/Advanced English Language Development class for the past
semester. Specifically, she has been facilitating @ reading group of advanced students and
leading them in discussion and inquiry about a novel. | have witnessed tremendous growth
in the reading fluency and comprehension of my students since they began working with
her. More importantly, she has them so completely engaged in the novel that they can't wait
to read the next chapter!
‘The students tell me they appreciate how Ms. Santucci is able to simplify the intricacies of
the plot to a level that they can understand. They tell me she is very patient anc they very
‘much enjoy working with her. Her knowledge of language, and language acquisition is.
invaluable in this endeavor. She effectively uses SDAIE strategies and native language
‘support when appropriate. Her teaching style is collaborative and friendly and facilitates the
confidence students need to open up and ask questions.
| have also found Ms. Santucci to be highly collegial and professional. On numerous
‘occasions we have engaged in dialogue about curricular questions and lesson planning
with regard to the Spanish 1 and 2 classes she is also teaching. Ms. Santucci is reflective
land conscientious in her planning and adjusts strategies and curriculum as necessary to fit
the changing needs of the class,
Ms, Santucci holds an Anthropology degree from UC Berkeley with an emphasis on
folklore and Latin American studies, which enriches her language learning instruction by
incorporating a cultural element. She is in the final stages of completing her Single Subject
‘Spanish teaching credential with an authorization to teach English Language Development
through Dominican University of California. Her program has a specific focus on
project-based learning and Understanding by Design planning; the focus is on getting to
know the students and finding areas for growth. This is evident in her teaching practice
through the thoughtfulness and flexibility she demonstrates in her planning, Any institution
would be lucky to have her!
