Kevin Butler

University of Montevallo 1996

Kevin Butler is in his 1st year at Pelham High School. Kevin is from Kimberly, Alabama where
he graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1991. While at Mortimer Jordan he played
on 3 State Playoff teams and 2 Jefferson County Championship teams. He was on the first team
to win the Jefferson County Championship for the school. He entered the University of
Montevallo in the fall of 1991. In the spring of 1993 he began working for Auburn University
which ended his baseball career. For 10 years he worked for Auburn designing, implementing
and building outdoor education and leadership training courses throughout the United States. In
2003 he left Auburn to teach at Cay-Chalkville High School. From 2003-2008 he was a part of
the CCHS baseball program working with all aspects of the program. He was a part of the
coaching staff for the 2005 and 2006 seasons that were the state runner-up teams in the 6A
classification. In 2008 he taught at Thompson High School and coached the freshman boys
basketball and baseball teams. In 2009 he accepted a job at Pelham High School to teach
science, coordinate all technology efforts at the school and coach girls basketball and baseball.
Butler earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Montevallo majoring in Biology.
He completed a Masters degree in Technology from Lesley University in Cambridge,
Massachusetts and another Masters in Instructional Leadership from UAB.
Kevin is married to the former Debbie Keyes of Jackson, Mississippi. Debbie teaches Advanced
Placement Psychology, Psychology, and Sociology at Pelham High School. They have a
daughter Brittanie, who is a freshman at Pelham High School. They also have a 2 year old son
Daniel and are expecting another son in May.
