Teaching Philosophy
I believe that learning is a unique experience for each individual.
The educator must teach with passion and enthusiasm whilst catering for
students needs and demands in order for each student to benefit and
reach their full potential. I endeavor to teach the whole person through
the life of Jesus Christ and support the Catholic Ethos and community
beliefs. As a teacher I will encourage not only academic growth but social,
spiritual and physical growth as well. Furthermore, by providing a rich
educational experience students will gain the required skills for life long
learning.
In order to successfully educate students I believe a strong
foundation of mutual respect and trust must be formed with the teacher
and each individual student within an academic setting. For this to be
successful, communication with students must be of greatest importance.
I aim to make students feel safe, secure and comfortable in my
classroom. To feel confident to express their thoughts and opinions
without feeling belittled or undermined.
The relationship with colleagues is another vital part of ones
growth as a teacher. Having collaborative and reflective relationships will
allow the teacher to learn and grow from past experiences while learning
from other colleagues. Positive collaboration with colleagues can also
have an impact on students as they see how to positively interact and
share ideas with their peers.
As a teacher I endeavor to inspire young minds to transform, create
and explore new knowledge and to question and challenge prior
knowledge. Students academic learning must be motivating and tune
into their interests. This will then inspire students to engage and

question, creating a collaborative environment where students are active

learners. Furthermore, creating a constructivist classroom encourages
students to be active learners. Posing questions to encourage critical and
reflective thinking and allowing the students to inquire and discover
multiple meanings. I also believe that Vygotskys social cultural approach
to cognitive development will enhance learning and is enriched through
group and class discussion, projects and inquiry-based activities.
Information Communication Technologies have a large impact on my
teaching philosophy. It is vital to embed ICTs into the classroom as
technology is growing at a fast rate and it is important to ensure all
students have access to it. There are so many wonderful resources that
can be used to enhance teaching and learning.
Students with special needs have the same rights to a high quality
education. Their needs are as great as any other students. Creating
achievable goals and working closely with these students will provide
them with the confidence and guidance they need to improve
academically, socially and physically.
As a diverse multicultural society it is important to embrace and
educate students on culture and diversity. As a teacher it is important to
be well informed about different cultures and socio- economic
communities as their learning expectations may vary. This can be
achieved by creating a strong relationship with the student and setting
individual goals. Communication with families is also necessary to ensure
a positive home school relationship. Australian history is an important
part of who and where we are today, it is also the core of the Indigenous
and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. As a teacher I believe
educating students about Australia's Indigenous history is vital and allows
indigenous students to contribute creating inclusivity and understanding.

Curriculum has a large importance on teaching in the twenty-first

century. The Australian Curriculum provides a framework for teaching by
identifying the content and specific achievement standards that must be
met for each subject (Killen, 2013). The Australian Curriculum supports
students to become successful learners, confidents and creative
individuals and active and informed citizens (ACARA, 2011). As a teacher
it is necessary to critically reflect on ones teaching and the curriculum
frequently. Moreover, by critically reflecting on my own practice and
teaching I will be able to continually create a more effective pedagogy
within key components of the curriculum.
The Brisbane Catholic Education Curriculum allows the teacher to
educate students on how to live in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and learn
about different values and beliefs that will shape our community and
empower learners. The values and beliefs are the foundation to what we
learn and how we teach.
I strive to be the best possible teacher for every generation to
come. I want to impact their lives in a positive manner so they will love
and enjoy learning and look forward to their future. I will be reflective and
use strong communication to gain further knowledge and keep improving
my pedagogy. I believe that all students have equal rights to a high
quality education that provides them with lifelong learning, to teach,
challenge and transform the whole person.
