Read The Empire and The People by Howard Zinn and In Defense of Empire by
Robert Kaplan.

Answer the following prompt in the form of well written blog entry. The blog entry
should be no more than 300 words, must include a thesis and supporting evidence
in the form of quotes and examples from both readings. You do not need to use
parenthetical citations, but should reference the author when offering quotes and
examples. You may use no more than 2 outside sources and should include a works
cited page if you use them.

Is the United States an indispensable nation?

Compare the nature of American imperialism in the beginning of the 20 th century to
the type of imperialism that the United States is often associated with today.
Determine to what extent the United States should remain in engaged in world
leadership now and then.

entry in a manner that evaluates the extent to which the US should be involved with
the rest of the world.
