The Art Critique

When working with
students, especially high
school students, cultivating
discussion can become
difficult. When students are
presenting a work of art
they have created, often
they become quiet, fearing
judgment of their efforts. I
like to lead students into
conversation using familiar
notions such as comment
or like peer art work.
(Referencing social media).
To the right are examples of
these comments. Students
are guided to make positive
comments about the
formalities of the artwork,

and encouraged to like or

appreciate other artworks.
This allows students to have
more points of discussion,
and engages students in
intellectual, yet fun
conversation.
