Objective
The field study project is part of our ecology unit in STEM. Through this
field study we are required to commit to our site and gain an understanding of our
environment. One of the best ways to understand the beauty of the world is
through a field study, and that's exactly what we will be doing. We will be using
the concepts we learn in class out into the real world. Data, observations, and
changes will all need to be recorded to have the full understanding of the
environment.

Site Descriptions
Observation Description: My biome has red plants with green leaves, this plant looks
very exotic, which makes me believe it is not a native plant. The bees in my area seem
to be attracted to this plant along with the flowery tree. Other insects in my area include
butterflies, spiders, and ticks. Although I didn't see the spiders, I saw the webs that they
had created. I was able to hear a high pitch sound from a bird in one of my trees. I
wasnt sure what type of bird it was but over the course of my field study I look forward to
finding what type of bird this is. My biome gets a lot of sun, the sun is coming from the
west of my biome. The other tree in my biome is prickly and seems familiar to other trees
Ive seen in Novato. Around this area is tall brown grass; fox tail grass, and a red type of
babys breath. Within the tall brown grass there are purple flowers.
Prediction: Over the next 6 weeks I predict that the amount of insects will change due
to the weather. I also believe that the plants will die due to the drought, and having the
plants be deprived of water. Lastly I believe that due to the increase in temperature the
amount of ticks will decrease because ticks do not come out usually until the fall.
Throughout the course of this project I will need to observe the changes within my
environment to see how the plants and animals interact. The changes that occur can
determine my biomes true nature and how the nature survives through the current
drought.
