Substance abuse of any kind is very damaging; while different substances may produce
different emotions it is easy for one to become addicted to abusing a substance. All substances
affect users differently but they all have very similar long term effects on the body and brain.
Substance abuse is a very common problem with many cases of it becoming a physical addiction.
Substance use has multiple physical and behavioral effects on the user and sometimes the people
around. Different substances all have different but also similar effects on the brain and its
receptors. After a regular consumption of a substance over a period of time a person can then be
considered an addict. A person may be more likely to abuse substances if they have any kind of
mental disorder or post-traumatic stress.

up of children abusing prescription medication. Correctly educating the user of the effects of
these substances has on a persons body and brain has been shown to reduce the use of
substances in minors. Peer helping and life skill assessments are beneficial to the prevention of
substance abuse as well. Schools also have counselors that provide assistance in substance
dependent adolescent peoples. Most users will often undermine their abuse to make it seems like
it is not a problem which can result in inefficient help.
