InTASC Standard Three: Learning Environments

the teacher works with others to create

environments that support individual and
collaborative learning, and that encourage positive
social interaction, active engagement in learning,
and self-motivation.

Name of Artifact: Classroom Observation

Date: November 1, 2013
Course: EDUC 101: Introduction to Teaching

Brief Description: A brief account of what takes

place in a 7 th grade math class
Rationale: Classroom observations can help me
see how someone else in my field does the
material and the class. I can learn from these
observations to make my class better for my
students. Classroom observations help me be able
to recognize what is something that I can teach in
a different way.

The items on the other bulletin boards are colorful and positive
reinforcements. There are four laptops in the room. She has a binder
where she keeps all important information. She keeps attendance, and
test scores so she knows how to help each kid.
1st hour
20 minutes of reading from an AR book. She models the importance
of reading by reading herself yet still keeping an eye on the class for
discipline.
Then there is announcements done by students and Ch 1 network
which talks about different issues. Examples of this is super storms,
dance contracts at school, male enrollment in college, and Saudi
Arabia Women cannot get drivers license.
These kids are remedial math students or "bubble kids and students
that did not make Pass on Instep.
She had problems that the students were to do to go over yesterday's
lesson.
She had some at the board and the others working them out on paper.
She is full of praise when a student gets it right.
She also goes and points what the student maybe doing wrong by
helping them think through the steps.

She is always reviewing the steps.

She is checking everyones work.

Everyone has a turn at the board which the students liked.

Examples of problems she gave.
-10x=-90
-64=8x
2x=12
-81=9x
X/4=7
X/11=9
X/20=-3
x/5=7
x/7=42
-100x=500
She has different ways to remember rules for example tic tac toe
board. This was to help remember

sign rules in multiply and

division.

This class took notes for 4.4 " Multiple and divide equations"
She wrote the notes on the whiteboard. She praised a student for
taking good notes and referring to them. When a student said the
material was too hard. She stopped the negative talk telling them
yes you can and other students did too. She asks the students to
give step by step of what she should do.
Examples
6p=84
3x=-21
-12y=-108
x/4=21
x/-7=2
12=x/-3

She works with the 8th grade math teacher to see how she can help
her students be ready for 8th grade math.
She gave problems for homework due the next day.
I learned so much watching this teacher. She does cooperative
learning. Cooperative learning is being done by the kids on the board
and the kids and in the seats. The kids at the board would get stuck
and the kids in the seats would help them out. She wants the kids to
succeed in Math. She is passionate about the subject she teaches. I
would like to be that way in my classrooms. She is trying to find
ways so the student remembers the material.

I know after watching

this class I am still sure about what I want to do. She also tries to
appeal to all the different learning styles. She understands that
students learn differently. I am going to use all the learning styles
when I am a teacher.
