Buffalo Boogie Invites Strollers and Dogs for 5K and 1-Mile Fun
Run

WHAT:
The Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge will host its 23rd annual Buffalo Boogie on
Saturday. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. It includes a 5K and a 1-mile fun run. The USATF-certified
course takes place on paved, private roads with no traffic, making the event stroller and dog-friendly.
Families will get a chance to win prizes, the fundraiser also has a variety of activities for the registrants
like Breakfast and specialty drinks, Balloons and face painting, Exhibitors and vendors, Arts and crafts,
Non-profit organizations, wildlife conservation/preservation organization and small businesses,
Educational exhibits and the Fort Worth Nature Center gift shop.
FONC hosts this fundraiser to support the Nature Center and its programs.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
1) Bison Herd - The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is home to a herd of bison that will be visible
along the route of the fun run.
2) Racers, families, strollers and dogs participating in a 5K race and a 1-mile run/walk.
3) Community Outreach Runners visiting community booths and participating in activities such as
face painting and crafts after the race.
Reporters will get a chance to interview runners, families with children, vendors, volunteers and
members of the organization.

About the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
The FWNC&R is a hidden wilderness that showcases how the DFW area once looked in its
natural state.

It is one of the largest city-owned nature centers in the U.S.

The FWNC&R is 3,621 acres with more than 20 miles of hiking trails that exhibit the natural
wonders of the refuge.

The Center is a division of the City of Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department
and it offers educational programs and hikes for individuals, schools, groups and families.

About the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
The FONC is a volunteer driven nonprofit that was established in 1974.

The organizations mission is to preserve, protect and conserve in perpetuity the Fort Worth
Nature Center & Refuge.

The FONC is the largest non-profit financial supporter of the FWNC&R and the organization
hosts a variety of events and fundraisers to provide approximately $300,000 in support for the
FWNC&R.

These events include the Buffalo Boogie, Lake Worth Monster Bash, an Art Exhibition and Sale,
and Fort Worth WILD.

About the Event


Buffalo Boogie is a fundraising event hosted by the FWNC&R.

The FWNC&R hosts a daylong event every May; proceeds from the Buffalo Boogie provide
nutrition and veterinary maintenance for the conservation of the herd of bison that reside at the
Nature Center.

The event also benefits educational programs for supplemental Nature Center staff, and capital
improvements at the facility.

The event is entirely volunteer-driven.

According to a survey by Recreation Roundtable, only 45 percent people said that the quality of
the local recreation sites is good.

According to a survey by Associated Press, National Opinion Research Center, American Press
Institute, only 40 percent people said that they follow health and fitness on a regular basis.
