Social Media effects on teens girls
Photoshop
Due to the increase of technology, social media has become very popular to almost
everyone today. Social media has a huge impact on the youth today. Most of these impacts can be
considered negative. Lets face it social media has affected many young girls over the years.
These effects has caused depression, lack of self-respect and self-confidence. Photoshop and
Technology has gone a long way to create unrealistic images for young girls today. In almost
every advertisement pertaining to a female, her image is tweaked, airbrushed, and cropped.
Minimizing her waist, enlarging her features, raising her eyebrows, pronouncing her cheek
bones, and airbrushing her skin are one of many examples of how a womans image can be
altered. ("Photoshop in the Media." Photoshop in the Media. N.p., n.d. Web. 12 Mar. 2015.)
Photoshop helps you change the way you look making you love your picture more than loving
who you see in the mirror.
Eating disorders.
Being uncomfortable in your skin is not something you want you or your children to deal with on
a daily basis. Eating disorders have grown 400% since 1970. Studies show that 80% of 9 year
olds are on diets (http://www.crisisconnectioninc.org/teens/media_influence_on_youth.htm).
Social media has brain washed females to believe that being a size 0 is acceptable. Social media
is not conscious of the fact that not everyone is created in the same body structure. This factor
has caused females to become judgmental of themselves and others. This sad fact has caused the
youth of young girls to have eating disorders and depressions since they cannot meet societys
expectations.
Young girls maturing faster
The age of maturity has been questioned for years but in today society social media has
influenced young girls to mature faster. Cloths have become less. Showing more skin is
considered sexy. Even the actors in our Disney shows are younger than the age they are playing
on tv. According to a recent study, 44% of teens have lied about how old they are online to
access sites with age restrictions.( Fox, Zoe. "Nearly Half of Teen Internet Users Have Lied
About Their Age [INFOGRAPHIC]." N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Mar. 2015). Growing up faster is the
highlight of some young girls but why? These young girls are looking up to the females on
television applying makeup receiving all this extra attention and of course they want to be just
like them.
