Hutchinson Music Boosters Minutes

Swing Into Spring:
The musicians are fine-tuning for the first annual Swing Into Spring on Friday May 8th from 7:30-10
p.m. Jazz I, Jazz II and the New World Singers will perform at the Crow River Winery. Tickets are
available at the High School or from participating students for $15.00.
Details: Tami Smithee secured the desserts and candy bar; Sara Redekopp organized the jobs and
volunteers; Brett Haugen photographer for the photo booth; Jim Jordahl - light and sound; Tricia
Kiewel - dance lessons; many service items (i.e., pitchers, carafes, etc.,) are borrowed to reduce startup costs.
Water Carnival Parade (Marching Band Festival) Committee:
The committee met May 6th to finalize details for the band portion of the Water Carnival parade.
Boosters will provide about 20+ volunteers to seamlessly host the visiting bands, help with the flow of
the parade (only the marching bands), offer concessions for hungry students and host the award
ceremony at the HHS football field. There will be a timed run-through then Kevin will meet with
Michael Scott of the JCs, and/or Officer Joe Nagel to firm up parade details. This effort should help
increase the flow of the parade and reduce the huge lag times before bands and other performing units,
therefore reducing the overall parade time by about an hour. What a contribution and impact we can
make for our community!
Concession Committee:
We will use our inventory to serve the students a light meal for the marching band review on Friday
May 15. Ruth will order about 5 additional pizzas. Dave Mitchell will bring the coolers (from Subway)
of water/ juice.
Fine Arts Award Ceremony:
We recognize the students who have lettered in band and choir on Thursday, May 28 at 7pm. Dave will
bring coolers (from Subway). We will need bars/ cookies which Sara Peterson and Ross Jurek will
coordinate.

OTHER MUSIC NOTESMMEA Auditions:

Good luck to the students as they record their audition which could earn them a possible bid to perform
for MMEA next school year.
Tri- M Music Honor Society:
First induction ceremony is Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Congratulations to the 20
charter members!

NEW BUSINESS:
Volunteer Spot: Online Volunteer Sign-up
Ross Jurek showed us a demo of an online volunteer system which we will pilot this year starting May
15 at the Marching Band Preview. This site enables families to volunteer on the dates that work best
for them, sends reminders and enables the Boosters to better manage communications and volunteer
opportunities. Regarding football concessions, if families dont volunteer, they will be assigned times.
Bring your calendars and be the first to try this out at the Marching Band Preview (5/15) and Fine Arts
Awards (5/28).
Cash Wise Brat Stand:
We did not get the brat stand this year. Keep your eyes open for possible fundraising opportunities.

Water Carnival Parade: 6 greeters*, 6 parent ambassador/ chaperone for each visiting school,
2 school monitors*, 2 at parade start point, 3 performance zone monitors, *prepare
concessions at HHS, (additional people to serve concessions)
