Workshop Seven Participatory Design

1 Activity Participatory design
You are a design team working on the interface that will be used within a library.
This is an in-house system that allows people using the library to locate the books
or material that theyre after, and to be directed to where that material is held.
Theres just one catch this library is in Timbuktu. For your first step;
1. Identify the goal for your design session (choose a particular aspect of
the design, or a specific feature of the product)
2. Identify who will be affected by this aspect or feature
3. What dont you know?
4. What do you need to know?
Fortunately, you have access to a librarian from the library in Timbuktu, and they will
work with you to design the interface. Work with them to get the answers you need,
and together develop an interface design for your aspect or feature. You can use
any of the design tools weve covered so far.

2 Homework

Look at the participatory design approach. Can you use it within your Design
Brief? What can you do? What would be difficult?
