Mr. Racchini

In the classroom

I will be at the door every morning to greet you.

Sometimes Ill even have one of you students
greeting with me. Do it warmly, because that will
set them up to have a good day.
Afterwards, please quickly and quietly put your
things where they belong, and make your way to
your seat.
There will be a warm-up on the board. Please get
out your warm-up journal and a pencil quietly and
begin writing. After five minutes I will stop you
with the attention sign.

ATTENTION!

The attention sign is for when I

need to speak to the whole class.
I will hold the ATTENTION sign up
and hit it a time or two if necessary.
This means stop what youre doing
or saying immediately and look at
me.

Role models

I am here to be your role model but

everyone in here is a role model.
Throughout your life there are going
to be people who look up to you or
people who work for you. Even now,
the other students are going to be
watching you. Take the opportunity
to show them something good.

Classroom code of conduct

As a respectful and responsible student, I will:
1. Treat everybody as a worthwhile human being,
because I am one.
2. Conduct myself in a safe manner so as not to
harm anyone, including myself.
3. Behave in appropriate ways in school and at
home or anywhere that I am, because I know
that there are consequences if I dont.
4. Listen to my teacher and obey his or her
guidelines because I know that they are looking
out for my best interests.

Classroom rules
1. Every human being deserves love and respect.
They do not have to earn it before you give it to
them.
2. Be mindful of what you say and do to others.
Gossip and cheating will not be tolerated.
3. Misbehaving in class simply because youre bored
is not acceptable.
4. Starting to pack up your things before I dismiss
you is disrespectful.
5. Follow all directions without delay, unless youre
confused. Then please ask for clarification.
6. Please keep voice volume at a pleasant level.

Our procedures

A procedure is how a situation should be

handled/responded to.
We will practice our classroom procedures for the first few
weeks until everyone understands and remembers them.
A procedure is NOT a rule.
If a procedure is not being followed, the class will continue
to practice the procedure until we all get it right.
Remember!! A procedure is meant to keep everyone safe
and learning and our classroom clean.
If you forget a procedure, look at the list beside the door. If
you are still unsure, ask another student. If you still do not
understand ask the teacher while I am not talking to the
class.

Moving about the classroom

Never get up from your seat while the teacher is speaking

to the whole class.
There will be three movement passes hanging at the side of
the room. These are small hourglasses on a string. If you
need to get up from your desk for any reason, except using
the bathroom, first look to see if one of the three passes is
available.
If a pass is available you may take one movement pass,
and put it on your desk. The sand in the movement pass
will take two minutes to empty. Please be back to your seat
before the sand has run out. Return the movement pass to
the wall and return to your seat.
If no movement pass is available, please wait until one is
back on the wall.

Bathroom breaks

There will be two bathroom passes by the door.

The red one is for the girls and the blue one is for
the boys.
If you need to use the bathroom during class,
please wait until a work period when the teacher
is not speaking to the class, take the bathroom
pass and walk quietly to the bathroom. Return
the pass when you walk back into the room.
You do not need to ask the teacher.
If the bathroom pass you need is missing, please
wait until the person who used it comes back.
If you have an emergency and it cannot wait,
GO!!

Lunch routine

When the bell rings, wait until I dismiss

you before you head out. Talking is
permitted, but be respectful and be aware
of your voice volume.
If I discover that youre running in the hall
rather than walking calmly, you will be
sent to the end of the lunch line.
Listen to all adults in charge while in the
hall and the lunchroom.
Remember, the younger kids will be
looking at you as role models.

Specials

If you are headed to PE, Computer

lab, Music, Library, etc., gather your
things right before the bell so that
youre not late.

When leaving the classroom

As always, act responsibly whenever

you are in the hallway.
When I dismiss you, gather your
necessary materials and go to your
destination without delaying.

Everyday classroom routines

Sharpen pencils before class starts.

There are spare pencils at the back of the room.
Return them if you borrow.
During discussion time, if you have something to
say, either raise your hand or wait for whoever is
speaking to finish. Respect each others opinions.
You will have teacher cards like a green one if
you dont need anything, a yellow one if you need
help, or a blue one if you need to have something
personal you need to talk about. Place these on
top of your desk so I can get to everyone.

Everyday classroom routines

cont.
If you have a question
while the teacher is

talking, raise your hand and wait quietly to be

called on. If I make eye contact with you but do
not call your name, please lower your hand. I will
remember you have a question and call on you
when I am done speaking.
If you need to ask the teacher a question during
work time, raise your hand. If I am busy with
another student, write your name on the bottom
left corner of the board and go back to your seat.
I will come and help you as soon as I can.

When you are finished

When you finish an assignment and there

is still work time, you have four options.
1. You may work on homework quietly at
your desk.
2. You may go to the reading corner with
your library book for silent reading.
3. You may choose one of the challenge
pages to complete quietly at your desk to
earn Leave Early Minutes.
4. Go help with the classroom jigsaw
puzzle.

Communicating with the teacher

When communicating with me, be

respectful, as I will be respectful with
you.
If you have to contact me outside of
school, e-mail is your best bet to get
a hold of me. It is
abc123@gmail.com.

Displaying your work

The back of the classroom is an area

for displaying work you are really
proud of. If you feel that one of your
writings is the best effort you could
have made, you have permission to
post it up so that others may read it.

What I expect for the year

Im really glad to have you in my class and

am excited to grow with you.
I expect this year will
Help you as a person
Engage you with the written word
Explore the greatness of stories
Create fond memories
Show you that school can be fun

the wind, but I can adjust my
sails to always reach my
destination. - Jimmy Dean
