My Field

Experiment
ROSA MAYRA CASTILLO

L.P Waters Early Education Center

For my field experiment I was lucky to be assigned such an amazing
class.
I was assigned Mrs.Wineingers Pre-K class at L.P. Waters in GISD.
The class was made up of 19 students and 1 teaching assistant.

My Experience
During my hours in this classroom I learned that I really want to
become a Pre-K teacher. Going into this classroom I wasnt exactly
sure what grade level I want to teach. After this experience I am
absolutely sure that Pre-K is the grade level I want to pursue.
I was able to spread my hours out into four days. I was able to
observe a full day in Pre-K at L.P. Waters. The rest were completed
three days of three to four hours.

What I Learned

I learned a lot in my time in the classroom

I learned that in a Pre-k class there is a 10-1 ratio. Only ten students
per teacher.

I learned that using a behavior award system is a very important

thing to create in a classroom. This will encourage the students to
behave well in class or else they will get moved down and not get
awarded like the other students.

When explaining an assignment. Have an example ready. Go over

every part of the assignment. Then I should ask on random students
on what the steps are for the assignment. when students ask for help
ask them to look at the example one more time and if they still need
more help to raise their hand. This is because a lot of students just
want a teacher to help them every step of the way when it is not
necessary.

What Else I Learned

I also learned that consistency is very important. Since the

students are so young, it is super important to be consistent.

Pre-K students are also tested at the end of the year. They are
tested on numbers, alphabet, rhyming words, and reading.

I learned about using different teaching techniques to help the

students really understand the material.

The students in Mrs. Wineinger's class really looked up

to her and admire her. I hope to one day become such
an amazing teacher like her!
