Sext Up Kids
The video Sext Up Kids talks about the way kids are being raised in a hyper sexualized
society. The overall argument of the video is that kids in these times are being forced to grow up
in a hyper sexualized world and that the effects of this are negative (2:50). It uses the term
KAGOY which means kids are getting older younger. It tries to prove this my explaining that the
marketing industry started if three year olds want to be thirteen year olds, lets market to them as
if they were thirteen year olds and if eight year olds want to be sixteen year olds lets market to
them as though teenagers (4:02). This is a reason why kids are getting older at a younger and
younger age because they are being influenced into thinking they have to look a certain way.
The video goes on the say that there are negative effects to this and as girls hit the teen years the
damage mounts. There were strong associations with negative health outcomes, mental health,
depression, self-esteem (8:01). These are all negative effects that are supposedly caused by
sexualization and it also helps to back up the fact that KAGOY is a negative thing among kids.
The documentary goes tries to convince its audience that the issue it is talking about is
bad for children. Some might argue that some of the positive things about this issue are that kids
growing up earlier at a younger age is a good thing because theyll act mature and may be more
adult like sooner. The opposing side could argue that this negative issue because acting older and
actually being older are two different things. I agree with the video that this is a negative issue in
society. There is no denying that the clothes girls are wearing has been changing so they look
like theyre older, like women. Parents are letting their kids leave the house in these clothes so
the issue is a lot more serious. Are parents really ok letting their daughter leave the house looking
like theyre going to a party when really theyre just going to school? If they are then I dont

agree with the parents. Like the video mentions girls are shown or made to think of this idea that
they have to look a certain way to be desirable. If the standards are unrealistic or are too high it
affects the kids self-esteem and causes other issues.
